Visa Basics
The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) allows employers in regional and low population growth areas of Australia, to sponsor employees for a permanent visa to work in Australia.



You must:

have been nominated by an employer who is willing to employ you to work full-time in an eligible occupation for at least two years
satisfy any registration, licensing or professional membership requirements that allow you to work within the occupation.


Unless exceptional circumstances apply:

have an Australian equivalent trade, diploma or higher qualification that is relevant to the occupation
be under 45 years of age
be able to demonstrate Functional English language ability.

The Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) allows Australian employers to sponsor employees for a permanent visa to work in Australia



You must:

have been nominated by an employer who is willing to employ you to work full-time in an occupation listed on the Employer Nomination Scheme Occupation List (ENSOL) for at least three years
satisfy any registration, licensing or professional membership requirements that allow you to work within the occupation
satisfy one of the following skill requirements:
be able to provide evidence that your qualification, skills and experience have been assessed as suitable by the relevant skills assessing authority and unless exceptional circumstances apply, have at least three years prior work experience in the occupation
have been nominated for a position with a base salary of more than AUD165 000.


Unless exceptional circumstances apply:

be under 45 years of age
be able to demonstrate Vocational English language ability.

Where to apply
Step 1: Certification
The employer must apply for certification of a nomination application with a Regional Certifying Body in their local area.

Step 2: Nomination
The employer must lodge the nomination application (certified by the Regional Certifying Body) by post, courier or in person (in Australia) directly with the relevant Centre of Excellence.

Step 3: Visa application
The employee applies for a permanent residence visa. The visa application should be lodged by post, courier or in person (in Australia) with the same Centre of Excellence that processed the employer nomination.

Note: The visa application can be lodged at the same time as the nomination application or within six months of the nomination approval date. It cannot be lodged before the nomination.
